Why Comala is a magical town?
Comala belongs to a program made by the federal ministry of tourisim, that main purpose is to promote other destintations of Mexico besides the beach destinations, such as, Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, etc. To become part of this program, the "Magical Towns" must gather certain chacaracteristics such as, architecture, culture, tradtions, among other things. Comala was selected in 2002, upon many towns of Mexico to be part of this progam. At the present moment there are 35 magical towns. The program will only consider 50 towns out of thousands of towns in Mexico. Once part of this program, each town receives economic support from federal, state, municipal and private sectors. One of the recent goals acheived with this program is that the town was able to recover a lost tradition, because in the late 60´s Comala was known as the white town of the americas, because all the houses were painted white with red roof tiles. Now in 2008 the goverment painted the houses near the main square as part of the first stage and further ahead they will paint all the town in white. We invite you to come and explore the town!
